Goulston and Polyvel Enter Joint Venture
Plastics Engineering: Industry News (October 2005)
Based in Monroe, NC, Goulston Technologies, Inc., has announced a joint
venture with Polyvel, Inc. of Hammonton, NJ, to manufacture and market
melt additives for the global synthetic fiber and nonwovens
industries. The venture combines the expertise of Goulston in
fiber lubricant technology with that of Polyvel in the engineered
compounding of liquid additives for plastics and fiber. The
current product line includes melt additives for polypropylene fibers
and nonwovens, to be sold by Goulston's direct sales force and
worldwide network of agents.
Report Tracks Demand for Specialty Additives
Plastics Engineering: Industry News (October 2005)
Demand for specialty plastic additives is projected to advance 2.6% to
5.2 billion pounds in 2009, according to a new study from The Freedonia Group
of Cleveland. Consumption will increase 4.6% per year to $6.8
billion. Ranking first in usage among additives are plasticizers,
accounting for half of total demand by volume in 2004, says the report,
adding that growth is tied closely to the market for flexible PVC
products, which comprise the majority of demand. Phthalates will
remain the dominant plasticizer type, despite health concerns that have
spurred changes to the phthalate product mix. Polyvinyl Chloride
(PVC) ranks as the primary resin for plastics additives, consuming over
60% of all additives by volume in 2004. PVC's improving prospects
are credited to an increase in nonresidential construction activity and
beneficial design trends in new housing construction. With rigid PVC
products growing more quickly vs. flexible, additives such as
lubricants and impact modifiers will see better advances than
plasticizers and antimicrobial agents.
Hydrophobic Concentrates Press release: Nonwovens Industry (September, 2004, p 120)
Polyvel,
Hammonton, NJ, has introduced the VH103-S and VH103-M Hydrophobic
Concentrates, which are melt additives for polypropylene nonwovens
processes. VH103-S and VH103-M Hydrophobic Concentrates impart alcohol
repellency to polypropylene nonwoven fabrics, making them useful in
medical, hygiene and construction applications. The concentrates are
design for uniform melt mixing in fiber extruders and more
cost-effective than topically applied repellents
